Man Strikes Victims With Bottle, Sharp Object At Valley Stream Restaurant, Police Say

A 54-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted victims both inside and outside a Long Island restaurant with a glass bottle and sharp object.

It happened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, July 28 in Valley Stream, Nassau County Police said.

According to detectives, an unknown person got into a verbal altercation with Jose Alvarez, 54, of Valley Stream, inside of La Perla De Oriente Restaurente, located at 22 West Merrick Road. 

During the verbal altercation, Alvarez struck the person with a glass bottle, police said.

After the two were asked to leave, Alvarez continued to argue outside the restaurant, where Alvarez struck a 33-year-old man with a sharp object, causing a laceration to his ear, according to police.

Alvarez also struck a second victim, 36-year-old man, causing a laceration to his cheek, said police. 

After leaving the scene in a 2010 Nissan, Alvarez was located a short time later and placed under arrest without incident, said police. Two victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Alvarez was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He is due to be arraigned on Sunday, July 28.
